Nirmita Composers Workshop

Nirmita Composers Institute led by Mr. Chinary Ung and Cambodian Living Arts (CLA) conduct a workshop for young composers in Cambodia and Mekong region for two weeks in Siem Reap. Students who study music from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar attend the workshop and learn composing based on Western classical and Khmer traditional music through group sessions, rehearsals, and lectures. Composed pieces are recorded as results of the workshop on the last day.
The Japan Foundation Asia Center Phnom Penh Office supports to conduct the workshop.
Mr. Chinary Ung, Cambodian-American composer said why Cambodian traditional music don’t compose new pieces? This workshop provides a chance for traditional musicians to compose new work.

Ms. Ip Theary plays Roneat Ek, Khmer xylophone and Ms. Yim Chanthy plays Khloy, Khmer flute.
